Frequently Asked Questions

What You Need to Know

Before you schedule with Genuine Care Dentistry, the office of Dr. John Bruinsma, here are a few items that we would like you to know about our dental practice that will assist in your decision for choosing us as your dental provider.

Experience

Dr. Bruinsma has 30+ years experience diagnosing and treating patients and has been voted one of the best dentists in West Michigan by his peers and patients for many years. His philosophy is to save as many as your natural teeth as possible. He is proficient in cosmetic dentistry, as well.

Implants

If implants are needed, you will be referred to a trusted Oral Surgeon for the implant placement and Dr. Bruinsma will then place the new crown that attaches to the implant. Implant procedures require a minimum of three months for placement and healing,  sometimes longer depending on circumstances related to each implant.

Dental Insurance

We are a Delta Dental Insurance Premier Provider. That means we are in-network with Delta Dental Insurance.

All other dental insurance claims will be sent for payment and patients will be responsible for any balance not covered by your dental insurance.

Patients with Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance will be expected to pay at the time of their dental appointment, since payment from BCBS will be sent to your home.

We are not enrolled in Medicaid.

New Patient Information

The first step in becoming a new patient is to call our dental office.  Our office staff member will ask questions regarding your past dental and medical history to prepare for your first visit.  If applicable, we will ask you to contact your previous dental office for recent x-rays (Full Mouth X-rays taken with 5 years, and Bitewing X-rays within 1 year) to be forwarded to our office.

After the brief information gathering by phone, your first appointment will be scheduled with our hygienist or Dr. Bruinsma depending on your dental needs.  Full Mouth X-rays will be taken if no x-rays were sent from another dental office.  Dr. Bruinsma will thoroughly explain his findings and if applicable, your treatment options at this appointment. If needed, we will send a predetermination to your dental insurance before dental treatment begins, so you will be informed as to what insurance my pay, and what may be the remaining balance that is your responsibility.  Payment plans may be discussed if work is extensive.
